How Do You Determine Awards

It's quite simple really.  I measure an extension based on a few weighted areas, compute the score, and award the top extensions.

The areas are as follows:

  • Performance - 20 points -  How fast is the extension? How many queries does it execute?
  • Usability - 20 points -  How easy is the extension to use!
  • Extensibility - 10 points -  How easy is it to extend the functionality?
  • Expandability - 10 points - How well does the extension handle large ammounts of data?
  • Stability - 10 points - How Stable is the component (Don't use it if it's under 5, and you're NOT a programmer)
  • Community Support - 10 points - Does the extension have an active development community?
  • License - 10 points -  10 for GPL compatable, 5 for other Open Source, 0 for non-open source
  • Usefullness - 10 points - How useful of an extension is it?

Awards are given out as follows

  • Platinum Award - 90+ points
  • Gold Award - 80 - 90 points
  • Silver Award - 70 - 80 points
  • Bronze Award - 60 - 70 points
  • Stay Away Award - Not dependant on points.  Issued if extension corrupts any part of the Joomla database, uses a rediculous amount of queries, or is otherwise a plain bad idea.
